Any way to transcode FFV1 444 YUV 10 bit to Magic YUV 444 10 bit?

Hi, I recently purchased MagicYUV and it now sits in my workflow for exporting out of Vegas Pro 22. The input to Vegas Pro 22 is lossless output from Topaz Video AI. Although I can add certain output codecs to Topaz I am limited by the capabilities of ffmpeg in that regard, since it integrates that application into its own workflow. Bottom line is that I export out of Topaz using FFV1 444 YUV as that is the only lossless compressed option available with 444 chroma subsampling at 10 bit. And even if I did add the magic codec to Topaz, ffmpeg is limited to 8 bits when using MagicYUV so is not suitable.

My present solution is to simply bite the bullet and transcode the FFV1 444 YUV 10 bit output to ProRes 4444 XQ - a codec which Vegas Pro 22 happily accepts as an import. But I would prefer a mathematically lossless option here and since I already have Magic YUV installed and working with Vegas Pro 22, that would be my preferred import choice.

I have spent a lot of time researching this and have come to the conclusion that what I want cannot be done but I am just asking here in the event that someone knows how I might be able to achieve this.

Encoding Premiere Export

So, i had to do a little editing recently with one of my recordings. Its a 2160p30 10bit file. Editing was easy but the problems start after the export. The exported file came out as 2160p30 10bit fine, it plays fine in a mediaplayer (MPC-HC).

But when i encode it to x265 (or x264) it comes out very choppy and basically unwatchable. This only happens when i export it with premiere. The original before edited file encoded to x265 comes out fine without the choppy playback. Encoding to x265 is done with MeGUI.

So now i don't really know where the problem comes from. But i'm thinking is most probably the premiere export, i just don't know how to fix it. Any thoughts on this?

MagicYuv with the new A7S iii

Hi, I've been using MagicYuv for quite a long time now and recently upgraded to the Ultimate Version.

I also just pre-ordered the A7S iii and was wondering what the best way to convert the H.264 (and or) H.265 files to MagicYuv while maintaining as much information as possible as well as improving post production workflow. I tried going into VirtualDub2 and converting it to 10 bit 422 as that is what the original files are recorded in, but was given an error. I'm able to do it via the After Effects renderer but I'm not seeing any bit depth specification for the 422 in the renderer unless im blind.

I'm new to video encoding. I have accumulated over 40 years of home videos from Super 8 to 4k and I would to preseve the quality of these videos while using Premiere Pro CC (v2020 or later) for video editing.

What is the best workflow for 1080p and 4k videos with Premiere? For 1080p, for example, I would like to merge several clips together as one MagicYUV avi file and edit them in Premiere. Each of these clips could be 5 seconds long up to over 30 minutes. Should I:

1. Encode each clip individually to MagicYUV avi and merge these avi files Premiere again using MagicYUV codec to create the big avi.

2. Drag all the raw clips in Premiere timeline and encode them using MagicYUV to create the big avi file. These clips are in various video formats - MOV, AVI, or MP4 etc.

What is the best setting in MagicYUV to achieve this? All of them are 8-bit files. Should I use YUV 4:2:2 in MagicYUV setting to create the avi? RGB? If I use 4:2:0, will that still preserve the quality of the original file and is it still lossless?

How do I make SURE I am outputting 12 Bit Color Files? The options are a little unclear on the window for MagicYUV in AfterFX.

I am importing 12 MXF files of footage from a BlackMagic camera that is being used for Green Screen removal and I would like to keep the full color range.

Worklow witch MagicYUV and PremierePro - Help needed!

Hi,

I ran into several problems using the MagicYUV codec with PremierePro and MediaEncoder. I tried to transcode a H.264 MP4 4k files from the GH4 into a lossless codec for using smart rendering and faster rendering previews and export.

As for my understanding Premierepro is working in YUV and sending the image i see on my Monitor to RGB. please excuse me for my (not) knowledge of whats going on with YUV and RGB, I try to keep it easy. I'm not understanding all that exactly.

But its clear for me, that if I transcode the MP4 to YUV 4:2:2 avi via MediaEncoder, I get files I can work with better in PP. Now my question. Why I can not choose between 8 bit, 10 bit and so on in MediaEncoder when I set the profile. Wehen I choose quicktime i have the option 8 bit, 10 bit, 12 bit . . ., but it wont transcode the files. Error every time. I want avi.files anyway, so why I can not choose 10 bit there, as I like?

Or should I use RGB for transcoding?

Is YUV 4:2:2 10bit avi the right codec for me to work wit, for the best performance?

After importing the MagicYU files into PP, it runs fine, but i wish to choose avi - MagicYUV 4:2:2 for storing my previews. Why it is not possible? Again, selecting quicktime in the preview settings as codec, i can store my previews quicktime YUV 4:2:2. But I do not want quicktime, I ran into several problems on my Windows Computer with that codec. It plays with black screen and no sound.

Is there a chance to import the preset 'MagicYUV avi' to PP for the Preview Settings? So that i can use the same codec as my footage?

I hope that anyone can help me. I try to figure it out for a few days now and I can not get any further, especially since I do not fully understand the whole matter.

Codec not found

We use ffmpeg during a Command Line workflow, but on one PCs we get the following fatal error from ffmpeg when reading a myuv200 avi file:-

Could not find codec parameters for stream 0 (Video: none (M8RG / 0x4752384D), none, 1920x1080, 447383 kb/s): unknown codec

Tried it on another PC it works fine? Any ideas as to the solution?
